Walker will toss the coin for the blockbuster clash at Optus Stadium, and the AFL revealed on Friday the 84-year-old would be formally inducted as a Legend at the Australian Football Hall of Fame gala in Melbourne on June 9.
The Swan Districts great is the only player to have won four Sandover Medals - the WAFL's highest award.
Making his debut for the Swans in 1961, the tenacious rover went on to play 305 WAFL games - and 21 matches for WA.
He was a five-time best-and-fairest winner and won the Sandover Medal in 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1970.
Walker will become the 34th Hall of Fame Legend - and only the third from WA behind Graham 'Polly' Farmer and Merv McIntosh.
The WA football icon said it was an honour to be elevated, and even more special to receive the news during a State of Origin build-up.
"I've always been an advocate for State football and Origin football," Walker said.
"I think that the people who love their football love the competition.
"We dislike the Vics, we put up with the South Australians, and we don't mind the Tassies. It was very competitive back in my days "
Asked why he disliked Victoria so much, Walker replied: "Because they were very arrogant, as they are in most of their sports."
Walker revealed he used to receive two pounds for a loss and four pounds for a win during his Swan Districts playing days.
After his playing career, he played an important role in negotiations as the VFL looked to expand to become a national competition.
West Coast and Brisbane joined in time for the 1987 season, but the expanded 14-team competition still featured a whopping 11 Victorian sides - something Walker wasn't happy about.
"They (Victoria) were going to keep all the names of their clubs. They were going to keep all their history. South Australia and Western Australia weren't," Walker said.
"So I was a fairly strong spokesperson against that. I asked for the Victorians to ... start again and put in eight sides or four sides to go into a national competition.
"If you wanted a national competition, it had to be even all the way through.
"That was my view. No matter how long Victoria had been going, we'd been going over 100-odd years. South Australia had been going the same time, a bit longer than that.
"It's a lot of years to throw something aside for something new, which we didn't know was going to work or not."
Walker was worried about the sheer amount of Victorian sides compared to other States.
"The Victorians were going to dominate the competition because they wanted to put their (11) sides and we were going to have one," Walker said.
"So that was against my instincts,
"And South Australia and Western Australia, as it's happening, we were going to lose all our heritage of the senior game of football, and that's what's happened a bit."
