But Volpato's joy will come amid heartbreak for four other players as coach Tony Popovic cuts his squad from 30 players to 26 at Australia's Bay Area base on Monday (AEST).
That squad will play next week's friendly against Switzerland, then group games against Turkey, the United States and Paraguay.
That group is expected to include Sassuolo winger Volpato, who arrived in camp on Saturday morning (local time) - too late to feature in that night's 1-0 loss to Mexico - after switching his allegiance.
The Sydney-born and raised Volpato knocked back Graham Arnold's pitch to join Australia's 2022 World Cup squad, then in March said he was waiting for a call-up from Italy's senior team.
Skipper Mat Ryan made it clear the Socceroos will welcome Volpato, while defender Alessandro Circati feels the attacker is now where he belongs and can make an impact.
"It's been a long time coming," fellow former Italy youth international Circati said after the Mexico loss.
"Obviously, the conversations between me and him stay between me and him, but deep down I knew he was going to come, just didn't know when."
Left-footer Volpato looms as the replacement for Riley McGree (hamstring), who is ruled out, along with Lewis Miller (Achilles).
Circati said it was down to Popovic to decide whether 18-year-old defender Lucas Herrington, who played the full game against Mexico, was "ready or not".
Harry Souttar was assured in his first Socceroos appearance since December 2024 and relished his first game alongside Herrington.
"The biggest comment I could say to him (is) he looks like a man out there, and ... I thought he was really good," Souttar said.
Popovic indicated the Mexico friendly hadn't drastically changed any of his plans.
Mathew Leckie, 35, started in his first Socceroos appearance since June 2024 and grew into the game after a rough start.
There were some indicators on who could miss out.
Attacker Brandon Borrello, goalkeeper Joe Gauci and striker Tete Yengi were left out of the squad altogether.
Jason Geria, Kye Rowles, Milos Degenek, Cameron Devlin and Martin Boyle were all unused substitutes in Los Angeles, while Awer Mabil played scant minutes.
