The 46-year-old actress has enjoyed huge success in Hollywood, starring in movies such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days; You, Me and Dupree; and Song Sung Blue - but Hudson has not yet managed to work with her own mum.
Speaking to E! News, Hudson explained: "It probably will never happen but we'll see, put it out there."
The film star also jokingly suggested that her family's dysfunctional ways might come to the fore on a movie set.
She added: "It would be like Arrested Development."
Hudson also explained that she has an undying "respect for every actor in our family".
She shared: "My mum and I were talking about this. Life, it goes fast, and you just gotta take every second in and every moment I get with my family and my parents is something I'm going to be very present in."
Hudson feels fortunate that her family are able to understand the challenges she faces in her professional life.
She said: "My family is a part of the industry and loves the industry and so there's a familiarity and an understanding. There's recognition that's sort of different than if you grew up in a family that wasn't and didn't understand the business."
Earlier this year, Hawn claimed that Hudson had inherited her acting talents.
The film star is the daughter of singer Bill Hudson and Hawn, and the 80-year-old actress is convinced that her daughter has good acting genes.
Hawn - who has been in a relationship with Kurt Russell since 1983 - explained to People: "It's instinct. It isn't learning. We all live together. We're a family together. And we have genetics that are very similar.
"All of us, we see somebody in here and I look at Ryder and I see Oliver, (Hudson's sons) and the kids. But I don't think that there's ... We learn by example. We don't learn by oration, rhetoric, none of that."
Hawn also thinks Hudson was fortunate to grow up in a household with two Hollywood stars.
The actress said: "Katie's obviously come from two people who make movies, and with that, you see how we behaved."
