Last Tuesday the women enjoyed ideal conditions for their social game of Triples. The winning trio was Ann Lowrie, Lesla Maslen and Kath Palmer (s) in a brilliant display.
On Wednesday the women held the Invitation Fours tournament attracting 72 bowlers from Moama, Calivil, Colbinabbin, Inglewood, Deniliquin, City of Echuca, Rich River, Mathoura, Rochester, Elmore plus several club members.
At the completion of the three games, the Rochester rink copmprising Jeanette Kneebone, Jenny Major, Elaine Hall and Margaret Harley (s) was victorious ahead of the second-placed City of Echuca four of Lyn Snell, Rhonda Gallagher, Michelle Cunnington and Roma Opie (s).
Consolation to Laurelle Smith, Margot Brennan, Christine Rictchie and Kath Wastell (s) from Moama.
Novelties: Kath Wastell and Norma Winchcombe (Calivil) won the Spiders. Bowl-to-the-Ditch: Shirley Sloane (Inglewood) and Val Gledhill (Rochester). Lucky Spot: J Kneebone. Raffles: Sloane, Gledhill and Aileen Fiedler (Rochester).
Lady president Pauline Humbert thanked all bowlers for their support together with the generous sponsors; Echuca Smallgoods and Ken Oliver - Ray White (Rochester). Echuca Discount Chemist and Bunnings donated the prizes for the special competition.
Tournament secretary Kath Palmer was acknowleged for assembling the field and Les Brereton and the greens staff received thanks for the effort in preparing the excellent greens and surrounds.
In the latest round of CVBD midweek pennant the division two women won an interesting match against Rochester at home.
Lockington defeated Rochester 76-63 with all rinks up. (A Brereton, B Mustey, A Haines, K Palmer (s) d. J Major 26-21; L Maslen, N Haines, L Chugg, P MacFarlane (s) d. M Harley 22-20; A Lowrie, L Appleby, M Davis, P Humbert (s) d. J Tamburini 28-22).
Due to the Victorian Open being played in the Shepparton region, there will be no CVBD midweek pennant played this Friday.
On the local district tournament scene, Tom Davis, Alan Kauffman, David Lupton and Russel Shacross travelled to Pyramid Hill for the fours event. Not much success to note apart from winning the best final game to help cover expenses.
At the recent Calivil Pairs tournament, Ray Hanson and Don Isgro won the runners-up trophies after a gruelling day of bowls.
Playing a marathon second game, the pair were still in combat when the rest of the field returned to the greens following the afternoon tea break - still with two ends to complete - hard earned.
At the Victorian Open on the weekend there were several CVBD bowlers in action.
To note - Rod Werner and Michael Humphries won their way to the last 16 in the singles while Werner and Troy Mansbridge along with Phillip Thorn and Humphries advanced well in the pairs section.

Two teams went to Lockington and Jenny Major’s team came home with the bacon.
The team was skippered by Marg Harley, with Jenny Major second, Elaine Hall third and Jeanette Kneebone leading.
Val Gledhill got nearest the ditch and Aileen Fiedler won one of the raffles. All in all they had a successful day.
In social bowls on Tuesday, 17 players braved the heat. The winning team was Jane McCallum, Elaine Hall and Shirley Williams.
Margaret Harley won the raffle and Marg Knights team got the Kit’s Kafe award.
There was no weekend pennant this week, but results for midweek pennant were as follows.
Division one lost 42-98 away to Deniliquin.
Janet Rankin, Rae Ault, Serena Sholl and Lyn Moon lost to Vicki O’Keefe 14-40.
Heather Wilson, Val Gledhill, Heather Curnick and Denise Pappin lost to Jill Grimshaw 20-21.
Ev Nichol, Di Milgate, Jane McCallum and Marg Knight lost to Fay Munnerley 8-37.
Division two was at home to Lockington and lost 63-76.
Phyllis Thompson, Shirley Williams, Trish Costello and Marg Harley lost to Phyllis MacFarlane 20-22.
Beryl Elliot, Gwenda Coghill, Aileen Fiedler and Janis Tamburini lost to Pauline Humbert 22-28.
Yvonne Smolenaars, Carol Cakebread, Elaine Hall and Jenny Major lost to Kath Palmer 21-26.
The final of the C Division Championship was held on Friday, November 17 between Graham Prince and Malcolm MacRaild and won by Malcolm MacRaild.
The Rochester mixed fours (’Crackerjack ) tournament was held on Sunday, November 19. The winners were Jenny Major, Graeme Willis, Pauline and Kevin Humbert and the runners-up were Heather Curnick, Brian Jones, Allan Crilly and Trish Costello.
By general consent, a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
Social bowls as usual today, Tuesday the 21st.
The draw is up for the ’100 up’ competition. The first round has to be played by Sunday, November 26.
Working Bee is today at 10am, the punchings are being done on C green. Hopefully a few of you can turn up and get the job done quickly.
