Tigers torched by defending champ

Rochester found itself up against one of the Goulburn Valley League’s best in round 14 and Euroa proved its quality in the clash.

On their home court at Euroa Memorial Oval, the Magpies weren’t often troubled in the game.

The Tigers weren’t far off the pace for the opening eight minutes, trailing 8-5 before the host really put the foot down, reeling off 11 straight scores to end the quarter.

The Magpies extended that run to 16 after the break to blow the score out to 24-5, but Rochy had some good periods in the remainder of the half to trail by only 16, 31-15, at the long interval.

There wasn’t a defining moment for Euroa in the third, but the Magpies continued to creep away, extending the lead to 25 at the end of the term.

Another strong effort in the fourth saw the defending champion finish the game 71-36.

Olivia Morris was unstoppable in the goal circle for Euroa, draining 57 goals.

Rochy’s goalers were led by Tia Webb with 22.

The Tigers (4-10) will hope to end their losing streak at three next week when they visit Mansfield (1-13).
