Just don’t fall off.
The summer season has barely begun but already the committee is planning the club’s calendar for the 2027 winter season.
And, all going as planned, local riders will definitely have a some new races to look forward to.
“It’s very much a new thing in cycling,” president Matt Dobeli said.
“We’re putting together some permits to add that next year.”
And there will be other changes.
“We're also going to do a winter time trial series instead of a winter time trial,” Dobeli added.
“In the depths of winter when it’s freezing, people don’t want to race for two hours, so we’re changing that to a short, sharp 15km time trial.”
So those will be the main alterations to the racing program.
But cycling isn’t all about setting a fast time or winning A Grade on a Tuesday night.
The club is focused on getting more non-racing cyclists involved, with Dobeli — who also works at Echuca-Moama Physiotherapy — inspired by conversations both in and outside the clinic.
“I talk to a lot of people and have many patients, and there's many out there who ride a bike but don't race, they're not a member of the club, and they're not particularly interested in competition,” he said.
“So one thing we're trying to do as a committee is come up with things to do for non-racing riders.”
One idea in the mulling pipeline for 2027 is a social ride to Cape Horn.
Finish it at the Vineyard and Riverside Bar and a few might immediately sign up.
Don’t want to wait to see if or when it eventuates? Just message the club on Facebook now.
You can even join a smaller group riding around town on Wednesday mornings.
It’s the perfect opportunity to cruise along and get the legs moving at a cruisy 20km/h.
