‘Green light for phase two’– Brenda Norman set her sights on phase two of her goal to claim the World Open Water Swimming Association Triple Crown of open water swimming. After completing the 34km Derwent River swim in record time in December, Norman was gearing up for the 27km ocean swim Pal to Shelley in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Both February attempts — on February 6 and 13 — were cancelled due to dangerous swells.

‘Olympics bound: Landale’s squad selection’ – Jock Landale was named in the 24-man Australian men’s basketball Olympic squad, from which a smaller squad would be selected to go to Tokyo later in the year. It came only a month after Landale was selected in Melbourne United’s NBL side.
‘Willett’s still on track for Tokyo’ – Olympic shooter and Deniliquin Clay Target member James Willett was selected to compete in both the men’s Olympic trap shooting event and in a mixed pairs event alongside Melbourne colleague Laetisha Scanlan in Tokyo.
‘Kelly seeks support for Cure charity ride’ – Vince Kelly announced his intention to ride in the 350km Tour de Cure cycling event, which raises money to support cancer research and support initiatives.
‘More COVID chaos’ – The Coronavirus forced local sport to close again, with a Victorian wide lockdown leading to a late decision to cancel games in both the Murray Valley Cricket Association and Campaspe Valley Bowls District.
‘Lloyd’s Rams return’ – Former AFL star Sam Lloyd announced he would return to pull on the blue and gold for a one-off performance with his former club, in the traditional Good Friday match between the Rams and the Finley Cats.
‘Giant opportunity’ – Will Shaw was preparing for his first taste of AFL football when his Greater Western Sydney Giants team was dur to go head-to-head with the Sydney Swans in a pre-season practise match.
‘Hogan reaches milestone game’ – Andrew Hogan became the second ever player to reach a 100 game milestone for the Deniliquin Rhinos. Dean Edge was the only other to achieve the feat before that February 20 match against Barooga. The A grade Rhinos only just held on to their unbeaten streak by the skin of their teeth, drawing with their opponents.
