Friday afternoon bowls
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
Last Friday’s afternoon bowls was cancelled for the day as a sign of respect for the late Bob Knight, also allowing members to attend his service and/or assist with the preparation of his wake.
Friday bowls will recommence on Friday, July 31 at 1pm.
Names to be entered on the list prior to 12pm.
Indoor bowls
Winners on Monday, July 20 were Mick Ellis, Joan Limbrick, and Greg Machar.
The winning team only managed one win from their two games but they still came home with the spoils. Congratulations.
Thank you
In true Bob Knight fashion, members of the Rochester Bowls Club gave of their time and talents so generously during this last week, ensuring that Bob’s farewell was fitting.
The many members who volunteered prior to, during, and after Bob’s service, your support was not only appreciated by Marg and the Knight family but by everyone at the bowls club.
In particular those who baked and prepared food, your efforts were enormous.
Many were not able to attend the service in person as they were busy preparing the food – a selfless and much appreciated act.
The esteem in which Bob and Marg are held was evident in the manner in which the Rochester community came together.
The Bowls club is particularly grateful for the help provided by the golf ladies and ‘Happy Hookers’.
Birthday wishes
Happy 90th birthday wishes are extended to the legendary Tim Quinlan, who celebrated his 90th birthday on Friday, July 24.
We trust that Tim celebrated in style with his family and friends.

Lockington Bowls Club
With the fog clearing the past week, bowling conditions have improved as huge numbers are chasing the elusive "chocolates" in the scrounge games played throughout the week.
On Wednesday, John Andrea had the bowls under control to amass a cool 44 points to win the rink ahead of Lorraine Appleby, nearby on 42 points, with Russell Shawcross, 33, and Donna Hart finishing on 20 points.
On rink two, Bruce Haines (Echuca) excelled with a triumphant 53 points to keep Neil Haines at bay on 45, while Rod Fiedler brought up the rear with a well compiled 42 points.
Rink three belonged to the in-form Pos Andrea with a winning tally of 45 points to shade Terrill Westwood, 33, followed by Owen "Smiley" McPhee, 31, and Peter "Eggsy" Egan, 28 points.
On Saturday, a similar field contested the scrounge event and the scoring was of high standard.
Club president John van den Bosch led the field home on the T.V. rink after scoring a total of 43 points to just beat the fast finishing club secretary Leanne McInnes, who totalled a gallant 41 points.
Allan Sharpe was next best on 36, while Rod Fiedler made it to 20 points.
Next door on rink two, Pos Andrea was in dynamic form to take home the "party pies" with 61 points and finish ahead of a gallant John Andrea (again) on 42 points, while Sharron Sharpe managed 33 points.
The final rink had five bowlers in action, resulting in a close game of bowls.
The leader of the pack was the articulate Peter "Eggsy" Egan, scoring 45 points after carding two misses in the last three ends.
In second place was the ever consistent Ashley Dobell, 43 points, with third place going to Natalie McLaughlin, 39, followed by the luckless Frank Chugg, 31, and Chris Vanderwart, close by on 30 points.
Another successful day of bowls and plenty of sunshine.
Bowls will continue on each Wednesday and Saturday while the greens are running at a fine 15 seconds.

Organiser Richard Feuk was disappointed his special countback system didn't go his way at last Wednesday's 9-hole social golf, which was played over the front nine.
Feuk was beaten to first place in an extensive three-way countback; Shane Bywaters eventually won from the unlucky Kevin McCormack, then Feuk, all on 20 Stableford points.
McCormack was closest to the pin on the third hole.
Much to organiser Richard Feuk's disgust, there were eight players all on 17 points, meaning they all gained an extra point to their handicaps.
Saturday's event was a stroke monthly medal.
Echuca visitor Allan Jones took out first prize with 95-29-66 from captain Darren White, who has been playing consistent golf lately, scoring 83 net 67.
Other good scores and ball winners were the following: Bruce Bryant and Mike Austin (70), Zac McInnes and Brent Sweeney (71).
President Lee Hicks was closest to the pin on the long par three third; fifth was David Harris, eighth to Mike Austin, ninth second shot Jake Wright, and 18th second shot went to Andy Purdy.
Singles matchplay semi-final: Darren White easily accounted for Grant Robinson.
There was no ladies competition last Friday due to the club's involvement and in respect to the late Bob Knight’s funeral.
Next Sunday, the club will be hosting the Central Victorian District Sandgreen Championships, also running in conjunction with our own Open Championships.
Hit off is from 9.30am to 10.30am. Book online or just turn up early on the day.

July 25 – Par
Despite the grey skies and cold weather, JD Wright was in terrific form to score +3 and win the Privilege Cup, Lockington Foodworks Player of the Day voucher, and division two honours.
Grant Humbert won division one with a super +2.
Next best was Jason Wakefield (+1) and Jeff Carnie (square), who won a ball on a countback from Kevin Humbert, Trav Mancer, and Phil Stanford.
Nearest the pins: Seventh – Phil Stanford; second shot ninth – Grant Humbert, Trav Mancer, and JD Wright; second shot 18th for the six-pack smack – Jason Wakefield.
Spike’s Longest Drive on the eighth, sponsored by Hot ‘n’ Cold Plumbing – Grant Humbert, Ray Brereton, and JD Wright.
Neither the Hip Pocket Eagles Nest on the third, nor Captain Grant’s yardstick on the 16th was won.
Handicap matchplay quarter-final results
Despite conceding 11 shots to Steve Holt, Grant Humbert won the first to take an early lead.
He then birdied the second, but still lost the hole to Steve, who had a brilliant birdie himself.
The next two holes were shared before Grant took control with wins on the fifth (eagle), eighth (birdie), and ninth (par).
Steve fought back valiantly to win the 10th and 11th with pars and cut the deficit to one-down.
Grant then birdied the 12th to go two-up, halved the 13th, and sealed a four and three victory with a birdie on the 14th.
It was a quality match, highlighted by Grant putting for four eagles in the round.
In the other match, Kevin Humbert won the first three holes to take an early lead before Ray Brereton won the fourth and fifth to get back in the match.
Kevin won three of the next four holes to lead three-up after nine.
Ray continued to fight back with wins on the 10th and 12th, but Kevin steadied the ship with wins on the 13th (birdie) and 14th (par) before ultimately winning four and three.
