While the division one weekend pennant outfit fell to Echuca, Rochester’s division two side made no mistake in its 11-shot win on Saturday.

Kaye Barker’s rink suffered an opening 20-rink defeat, but Brian Jones (24-13) and Don Gillies (28-8) recovered the ascendancy to take the win.
In division three, Lockington kept Mathoura at arm’s length to claim a 15-shot victory.
James Harris’s rink two proved the difference with a 10-shot win, while the other rinks were tightly contested going the way of Lockington by one and four shots respectively.
Rochester had a comfortable victory of its own, winning 62-49 over Rich River.
In division 4a, Rochester defeated Elmore 55-23, while in 4b, Lockington came away with the win against Mathoura Blue 46-38.
The division one midweek pennant contest between bottom-of-the-ladder Rochester and first-placed Moama went down to the wire.
Rink one honours went the way of Moama’s Marilyn Stephenson 22-13, but Rochester staged a remarkable fightback through Kaye Baker’s rink, winning 31-9.
Rochester conceded the final rink by 11 shots but secured the upset win - its first of the season - by two shots, 55-53.
Lockington conceded to Elmore by 30 shots in division two, while Rochester went down to Echuca by eight.
60 and over
Last Wednesday, Lockington hosted the 60 and over competition, attracting 120 bowlers.
In the final analysis, the Lockington rink of Kevin Humbert, Ray Hanson, Andy Harris and Graham Turner collected the "super chooks" for their effort.
Les Grill’s Kyabram team came second with three in the yardstick, also winners of four chooks.
This week, 60 and over continues at Tongala at 10am on Wednesday, December 15.
Rochester
The final of the men’s B and C Grades was played on Thursday, December 9, at 3:30pm.
In B Grade, Leigh Milgate got of to a great start into the teens before Bert Smolenaars had many.
Bert eventually staged a comeback but was eventually defeated by Leigh.
In C Grade, Norm Christie and Alan Williams had a close game, with Alan winning in difficult, windy conditions.
Well done to all four players, markers and scoreboard keepers and the members who turned up to support them.
Social bowls was played on Tuesday, December 7, with winners being Lyn Moon, Yvonne Smolenaars and Judy Murray.
Raffle winner was Janis Tamburini.
Second round of 21 Up will be played by Tuesday, December 21, as is the first round of the club championship.
Lockington
The club’s women were treated to excellent conditions for their weekly social bowls.
The game of Triples was played to a high standard, and the winning trio comprised of Mary Thomas, Margaret Davis and Phyllis MacFarlane (s) by a close margin of one shot ahead of the second placed team.
On Tuesday evening, a gathering of 20 players assembled for the popular Sports Night bowls.
The winners on the night were Andrew Harris and Kim Ray (s) on two wins plus 16 shots from Peter Eade and Ray Brereton.
Sports Night bowls will continue on a weekly basis (weather permitting), with names to be listed prior to 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start.
In the local Campaspe Area Pennant Midweek competition, our women failed in their quest to topple Elmore, with all rinks down in the 38-68 loss (Pauline Humbert lost to E Burke 14-24; Annette Brereton l.t. L Wilson 15-26; Phyllis MacFarlane l.t. Ann Williams 9-18).
The weekend pennant resulted in two wins, with both Division 3 and 4B defeating their Mathoura opponents respectively.
In Division Three, the score was a 69-54 victory and all rinks up (Jim Harris d. M Hooper 29-19; Philip Cunnington d. R Murphy 20-19; Leanne McInnes d. B Murray 20-16). Division Four B had one rink up and one rink down to record a fine win against Mathoura Blue to finish with a 46-38 scoreline. (Rookie skip Andrew Harris d. G Johnston 26-17; Bill Musgrove l.t. Bill Brander 20-21). Both divisions retained their positions in the four.
The club championships are nearing completion with Ken Main defeating John van den Bosch to grab a semi-final berth. Main will play Frank Chugg while Philip Cunnington will meet the winner of the Steve Pavone - Bill Musgrove clash this week. The women are playing the quarter finals. Current champion Leanne McInnes defeated Annette Brereton to make a semi-final.
Members have visited local tournaments during the past week with results to be handed in.
The club will hold the annual Christmas Break-up on Friday evening at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm meal. Names to be listed for catering purposes and all Hamper tickets to be returned. The Hamper will be drawn Saturday morning in front of Giddings Supermarket.
