Beginning with a bout against Anthony Debono in Melbourne, the 16-year-old showed no signs of his inexperience, battling hard from beginning to end to win on a points decision.
With the blood still pumping from his maiden triumph, Boland backed it up the following week in Cobram, dominating Albury’s Jordan Devine to secure a knockout and walk away with the Leigh Maskell Cup as fighter of the night.
Boland said it was fantastic to firstly go out and fight, and then find his way on to the winners’ list.
“It was a hell of an experience, I had a great time down in Melbourne fighting,” Boland said.
“To be able to go into the ring with the crowd behind me, it was unforgettable, and to win made it even better.”
Boland was initially slated to make his debut back in February, but an injury to his competitor and then an unfortunate dog bite saw his debut postponed.
He said it was a relief to finally get into the ring after those setbacks.
“It felt really good to be back fighting, after being bit by a dog I just went back into the gym and trained hard,” he said.
“I feel that extra training really helped me in the end, it meant I was fitter, stronger and more ready for the fight.
“In the fight I just went in there real smooth, first round and second round I put pressure on him before I really owned the third round and got the win.”
After triumphing in Melbourne, Boland then travelled to Cobram the next weekend, where he bettered his debut effort with a knockout victory.
While backing up a fight six days later would be too much for most fighters, Boland said he loved the challenge of back-to-back fights.
“I was really keen to go out and fight in the country, it was a great night and another really good experience for me,” he said.
“I was already really pumped up from the first fight, so although I was a bit sore, I knew if I stopped I’d be hurting even more so I just kept going.
“The more fights the better for me at the moment, I just love it.”
Watching on in Boland’s corner, GV Boxing Academy head coach Zedda Harrington said things were progressing excellently for the young fighter.
“It is going exactly how we have planned, we are well on track with everything and those first two fights were a great indication of his talent,” Harrington said.
“He still has plenty to improve on, and we will go to work over the next few weeks before his next fight on June 26.”
Boland wasn’t the only success story to come out of Cobram fight night for GV Boxing Academy, with a number of other Mooroopna products impressing in the ring.
Zedda’s son Izaiah, 9, and nephew Knox, 8, squared off to begin the night in what was an excellent display of junior boxing.
Declan Connors also came away with a victory, triumphing via a split decision over Wangaratta’s Nick Satori.
Meanwhile, Marcus Davis also successfully defended his state title.
