In the second semi-final of the Goulburn Murray Junior Football League’s division one under-16 competition, the Paul Newman coached Bombers kicked 3.10 while holding their rivals Shepparton Swans to a solitary point, 3.10 to 0.1.
That point took until midway in the last quarter to register.
The game was played on a waterlogged surface, and continuous rain, and was dominated by defences of both sides.
The win put the young Bombers into the grand final on Sunday week (August 23) at Deakin Reserve against the winner of the Echuca-Shepp Swans preliminary this weekend.
Echuca ousted Shepparton Bears in a higher-scoring game at the same ground earlier in the day, winning by 48 points, 11.12 to 4.6.
The young Bombers were more desperate than the Swans and handled the trying condition with a bit more authority.
Its backline led by Riley Nicholson, Ethan Greiner and Rhys Parsons were dominant all game.
And the Bombers onball brigade, led by ruckman Sam Bruhn and classy onballers Max Stockdale, Billy Isaac, Charlie Pekin and Cooper Hedges, ensured there were enough chances for their team’s forwards to kick a winning score.

Coach Paul Newman has played and coached a lot of football but said he couldn’t remember ever being associated with a game played in such challenging conditions.
