While Echuca and Stanhope are the teams to beat, Rochester is still searching for its first victory for the 2025-26 season after losing to the latter in round four.
Despite losing to Stanhope, Rochy made a good account of itself on Saturday, with the clubs inseparable in the first two rinks before Stanhope’s Gregory Fitzpatrick put Richard Feuk to the sword 28-13 to take the overall win 14-61 to 2-46.
Rochy currently sits in seventh, only above Mathoura on for and against, and will battle with Tongala in round five at home.
Lower grades
It was a busy round of action on the green in the Weekend Pennant lower grades.
In division three, Elmore couldn’t get over the top of Kyabram, being bested 0-39 to 16-68.
It was a straight sets victory for Kyabram as Elmore’s Kenneth Wills was the only skip to go close — losing to Wayne Chambers 15-17.
Elsewhere, Rochester emerged victorious over Stanhope 14-66 to 2-50 and Lockington was defeated by Deniliquin 14-66 to 2-49 to 14-66.
While Stanhope’s Barry Williams got over the top of Rochester’s Graeme Chambers, John Weeks tore apart Stanhope’s Kenneth Hoppner 32-11 to deliver the win for Rochy.
While Lockington’s John Fisher-led unit got a win over Deniliquin’s Carly Crothers 21-14, it wasn’t enough to get the win as Deni’s Scott Vesty and Tony Danckert ran over the top of Leanne McInnes and Steve Pavone.
Division four saw Lockington get a big win over Kyvalley View 16-83 to 0-33, but Rochester fell to Deniliquin RSL 2-44 to 14-63.
Lockington had little trouble getting over the top of Kyvalley View as Cindy Felmingham, Shane Felmingham and Denise Gilmore all got wins in their rinks.
The same couldn’t be said for Rochy as Jenny Major was the only skip to give Deniliquin RSL a headache, taking down Ron Marchetti 20-11.
Meanwhile in division five, Moama pulled one over Lockington 14-51 to 0-27 and Stanhope got a strong victory over Rochester 14-46 to 0-27.
Lockington couldn’t break through in either rink, as Kalvan Stout and Rodney Fiedler went down to Mark Daly and Walter Wadge 17-20 and 10-31, respectively.
It was a similar situation for Rochy as Joan Limbrick and Greg Machar were unable to match it with Stanhope’s Wade Summers and Mal McLean.
