First off was George Griffiths in a strong U17 field. With lots of surges and breakaways George rode strongly to finish just behind the winners.
Harry Moller took up the challenge and joined Lenny Griffiths and the familiar face of Dave Randall in A-grade.
The riders looked a little twitchy early with some surges, but no definitive breakaway move.
Harry found himself toward the back of the group but with Mum and Dad watching on and the threat of having to dress up as Ronald McDonald again, he soon found a way back on.
By midway the front group of between six to eight riders, including Lenny and Dave, had established a clear break.
In a strong finish, Dave crossed the line fourth and Lenny fifth. Well done boys!
B-grade
Troy Griffiths, Nick McNair, Matt Sherman and Will Smith were joined by George doubling up after his U17 efforts.
Early on it was Troy who went to the front before all four riders sat comfortably in the bunch.
As the laps ticked down, it was Nick McNair on the front providing some customary drive to the group as Matt Sherman drifted forward.
In the end all EMCC riders finished strongly behind a late solo breakaway.
C-grade
Darren McKemmish, Liam Clohosey and Matt Dobeli were joined by EMCC race regulars Matt Grealy and Stanley Thomas.
Georgie Jenkins and Claire Goodman started in the women's race.
The pick of the riders in the men's event was Liam, who kept himself well positioned in the bunch and rode strongly, with all three riders finishing in the bunch behind a breakaway group of three who went away early and stayed off the front.
In the women's race, Claire and Georgie often found themselves on the front with few helpers.
Claire finished strongly for third and found some closure by giving some feedback to her competitors when interviewed by Noel Sens.
Levi off on European adventure
EMCC young gun Levi Hone flew out to Nice in the south of France on Tuesday to meet up with the U19 Academy Region Sud Powered by Giant Team.
One of 18 riders from across the globe selected for the academy team, Hone will be based with a host family in Marseille while competing at races across Europe.
It’s straight into action for Hone once he arrives, as he is set to compete in Spanish race Gipuzkoa Klasika from April 20-21, before heading to Italy’s Giro di Primavera on April 28.
From there, Hone will fly to Czechia to join the ARA Australian Junior Cycling Team, made up of six of the brightest junior prospects in the country.
The team will complete a five-week racing program at the highest level of junior racing in the world, participating at UCI Junior Nations Cup events in Czechia, France, Switzerland and Germany.
