Elmore vs Leitchville-Gunbower
The Bloods got on the board last week with a two-goal win and built on that result this time out against the Bombers, scoring a more comfortable victory, 58-31.
Elmore started the game strongly, jumping out to a 14-8 advantage by quarter-time.
Confidence was up and the defence proved particularly disruptive in the second, holding Leitchville-Gunbower to just four goals.
It resulted in a 31-12 half-time lead, and although the Bombers were able to find more around the goal circle after the break, the deficit proved insurmountable.
Elmore went into the final term up by 20 and won the final 15 minutes 15-8 to storm to the 27-goal win.
The victory pushes Elmore above the Bombers on the league table, up to seventh and in a share of fifth on points.
Leitchville-Gunbower has now failed to win in its last four outings and, at 1-1-3, has significant regrouping to do to arrest the slide.
Colbinabbin vs Huntly
Champion Colbinabbin continues to post eye-watering scoring numbers, running through Huntly, a finals hopeful, 91-20.
It was a masterclass at both ends from the league’s dominant force, allowing just nine goals in the first half while racking up 47 of its own.
Huntly had a slightly better second half, but it was nowhere near enough to slow the Grasshopper juggernaut.
Colbo is averaging a ridiculous 75.6 goals per game this season, and has scored 87 or more in each of its last three, as it continues an unbeaten streak that stretches back to the beginning of last season.
While the Hoppers are now a perfect 7-0, Huntly declines to 2-1-3, still clinging to fourth spot.
White Hills vs Mount Pleasant
In a duel for second-place, Mount Pleasant maintained its status as Colbinabbin’s leading challenger, scoring a hard-fought victory over White Hills on the road.
It was a tense contest throughout, never truly settled until late in the fourth, with the Mounts coming away with the victory 51-43.
It gives Mount Pleasant some breathing room ahead of the Demons, now 6-1 and clear in second place.
White Hills regresses to 4-2 but still has a two-game lead over fourth-placed Huntly.
The remaining match of the round saw Heathcote score another important win, knocking on the door of the top five after defeating North Bendigo 45-35.
Lockington-Bamawm United had the bye.
The league is a case of the haves and the have-nots through the first seven rounds. The top three of Colbinabbin, Mount Pleasant and White Hills boast 17 total wins, while the remaining six sides have only 10 between them.
Next Saturday promises some intriguing mid-table clashes, including Elmore looking for three in a row at Huntly.
Lockington-Bamawm United has the unenviable task of hosting Colbinabbin, while North-Bendigo travels to Leitchville-Gunbower and White Hills is on the road at Heathcote.
Mount Pleasant has the bye.
