BLU feel full force of undefeated Moama

Bamawm-Lockington United felt the full force of an undefeated Moama on Saturday, going down by 61 runs at home.

Batting first, the visiting Moama got off to a hot start with the bat through Joel Murphy (28) and Fraser Buchanan, with the pair combining for 59 runs before Murphy fell at the hands of Noah Turner.

Jeremy Felmingham (1-27) removed Michael Hill (29) after he had put on a strong showing with Buchanan, before Liam Hamilton struck shortly after to remove the dangerous Anthony McMahon (7) to have the visitors 3-127.

Buchanan was a rock at the top for the visitors, compiling a well-made 75 before Hamilton sent him packing with Moama 4-149, while a handy 22 from Matt Saunders then helped the ladder-leaders to a total of 7-205.

BLU skipper Regis Chakabva got the home side’s chase off to a quick start with bat in hand, posting 68, most of which came alongside Declan Pearse (32), with the two putting together an 83-run partnership for the second wicket.

But the dismissal of Pearse by Matt Saunders (2-14) incited a collapse, as BLU lost the final nine wickets for just 48 runs to be all out for 144, well short of the target after finding themselves in a promising position.

The loss means BLU sit fifth on the ladder at the end of round four with a 2-2 record, although they will be hoping to improve upon that when they take on the winless Leitchville-Gunbower next weekend in the first of the two-day matches.
