His own harshest critic, the 31-year-old Melbourne marvel will play No.6 against Cook Islands in Townsville on Saturday night with a determination to finish the season on a high.
"I have alluded to it, I know I haven't been up to my best and have been a bit scratchy but I am trying to do all the little things so I can," he said.
"Sometimes you are not going to play your best but the team does well and that is more the thing ... if the coaches and players still trust me.
"If that is me having a seven or an eight out of 10 to get the boys over the line then I am happy."
Munster has won two premierships, multiple State of Origin series and the 2022 World Cup.
So what drives him now?
"I want to see if I have still got it with the younger boys," he said.
"The older you get you look at Daly Cherry-Evans and Adam Reynolds who were still playing great footy (well into their 30s).
"Sometimes my legs will lose out on me with speed, but my head is still there and I am still competing.
"I still feel like I have a lot to give to this game and I am looking forward to going out against the Cook Islands.
"Once I start losing my drive and competitiveness to put my body on the line then I will know full well it is time to give it up."
Munster will play in the halves against Cook Islands alongside Tom Dearden. He has played with Dearden and the other Kangaroos half option Sam Walker in consecutive State of Origin series for Queensland and said both had plenty to offer.
"They are both great in their own way. Sam Walker has that ad-lib play footy and special plays with his grubbers ... he can create something out of nothing," Munster said.
"Tommy is just a competitor. You know what he is going to give to you. His performances are a nine out of 10 every week and he is probably one of the best defenders as a half."
Munster said he was not sure which way coach Kevin Walters would go in the knockout phase of the tournament, which starts for Australia on November 8 in a semi-final in Sydney, but said he was happy to play alongside Dearden or Walker.
"I don't have a preference. I just have to worry about my own backyard and go out there in a green and gold jersey and play to my best," he said
Munster said he expected a "physical" game against the Cook Islands after they led New Zealand 16-12 mid-way through the first half of their loss last week.
"They went out and made their nation proud and I expect the same from them," he said.
He said the Kangaroos would need to improve on their 36-22 win over Fiji.
"We know we are a whole heap better," he said.
