A man who was caught with 415g of dried cannabis has been fined $1500.

Bruce Robertson, of Shepparton, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to possessing cannabis with an intent to traffic, possessing a prohibited weapon and dealing with property suspected to be the proceeds of crime.

Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Chris Cole told the court police found cannabis seeds, 415g of dried cannabis and scales when they searched Robertson’s Knight St house on November 5, 2019.

Police also found a Milwaukee work light that had been stolen in Shepparton and knuckledusters in the search.

Robertson told police at the time he had the knuckledusters “for protection” and he did not know the light was stolen, Leading Sen Constable Cole said.

Robertson’s solicitor Megan McKenna told the court her client had been a long-term user of cannabis that he used to help with pain from a back injury.

She said Robertson had been on bail since the offences in November 2019 and had not come to the attention of police since then.

She also said the light that was found in his shed had been stolen four years earlier and he had not lived at the property that whole time.
