Disqualified driver’s false name lands him in court

A man who was disqualified from driving and gave police a false name when they pulled him over was in court for the same offences only a few months earlier.

Dallas Jade Bourke, 44, of Shepparton, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to driving while disqualified and stating a false name to police.

Prosecutor Chris Cole told the court Bourke was pulled over by police on the Burwood Hwy in the Melbourne suburb of Wantirna on August 24 last year because the rear number plate of his vehicle appeared to be false.

Initially Bourke gave police a false name.

When they called him out on it after checking the police database, Bourke told police his driver’s licence had been disqualified for six years for drug driving.

He said he had given a false name because of his licence status.

“You don’t have the best driving record,” magistrate Ian Watkins told Bourke.

“You appeared (in court) in May last year for stating a false name and driving while disqualified, and a few months later you did it again.”

Bourke was fined $1200 and ordered to pay $144.60 in statutory court costs.
