Recently my daughter visited from Melbourne, and we watched a movie together.
The movie was called Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. In the animated movie we see the title character Puss in Boots trying to claim a wish, trying to get nine lives back.
One of the major themes is that we have only one life to live, and we must live it the best way we can.
There is some truth to this, for me and I suspect others, as we look up to those who have done amazing things with their life.
Some examples would be Fred Hollows returning sight to the blind, Mother Teresa for her work with the poor and Glenn McGrath for his sporting skills and also his work for cancer awareness.
We rightly respect these people because of what they have done with their life.
I want to share with you the story of someone I respect — not only for how they lived their life but also how they died.
He was a man who only lived until he was 33. He was a tradie, but later in life, his last three years, he donated his entire life to helping others.
He mixed easily with all people from different walks of life and showed love.
He did many amazing things, such as healing sick people, and spoke great words of wisdom, words that we can live our life by.
He was falsely accused of a crime and was killed and yet at his death he asked that no-one be held accountable for what was happening.
He showed forgiveness and started a movement that would spread over the world.
I am of course talking about Jesus Christ, who transformed the world in which we live.
He gave his one physical life for us, you and me, and in the process did amazing things — and still does.
In a world where we like to have heroes, those who live a life we admire, I want to recommend to you Jesus.
Get to know him through his word, the Bible, and your life can be changed for the better because of the life he lived here on earth.
