KyFarmers BWBL member Murray Arnel said the focus of the seminar would be the financial, market and broader impacts if FMD or lumpy skin disease entered Australia from Indonesia.
“There is plenty of good messaging and information out there about managing the on-ground, physical side of things with our biosecurity plans, but we’re keen to hear about how even the inference of FMD (in Australia) hanging over our heads could impact the industry,” Mr Arnel said.
“The Murray and Goulburn valleys have lots of livestock producers, which would be directly affected, but the impacts would also flow on to feed and possibly machinery suppliers.”
He said attendees at the seminar would be the first to hear Mr Quilty speak following his visit to Indonesia as part of an Australian delegation that had seen Indonesia’s efforts and progress against the diseases first-hand.
Mr Quilty will also provide insights on Australia’s meat, wool, milk, grain and hay sectors in the short, medium and long-term under all all scenarios — no disease or if one or both diseases make it to Australian shores.
Mr Arnel said all livestock producers and interested community members were welcome to attend, but they must register, as numbers were limited and no tickets would be available at the door on the day.
The workshop will be held on Monday, January 30 from 11am to 3pm at Hurleys Hotel, 217-219 Allan St, Kyabram. Cost is $35 and includes a light lunch.
