From pushing for public minutes to auditing a decade of ratepayer spending, here’s what’s in store at tonight’s Campaspe council meeting.

Closed-door meetings and ten years of council spending are set to come under the microscope tonight as Campaspe Shire councillors return to the chamber with a series of motions.

Following last month’s budget-heavy agenda, tonight’s meeting shifts focus to policymaking and progress reports, as well as a few councillor-led motions.
Agenda breakdown
– Policy decisions: one regarding sponsorship, the other about shire-wide child safety.
– Progress report: draft Jaycee Park masterplan. Council will also decide on whether they back smaller interim projects addressing immediate community concerns about the park.
– Statutory planning: Council will request state government to rezone School Rd, Gunbower land from Public Conservation and Resource Zone to Farming Zone 1.
– Flood studies: Seeking ministerial approval to implement the Kyabram and Echuca Moama flood studies.
Cr Adrian Weston is putting forward a proposal to make councillor briefing meeting minutes available to the public.
He will be requesting minutes for typically closed-door meetings to be published for public eyes, in accordance with council’s commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance.
Cr Jessica Mitchell will be calling for a detailed report examining actual versus budgeted council spending from 2015/16 through to 2025/26.
The report she is proposing will have a year-by-year breakdown of capital works and expenditure to each township across Campaspe Shire, as well as a comparison of the spending and a clear identification of “shire-wide” or “other” spending.
