The school is one of 36 specialist schools sharing in just under $326 million in capital upgrades in the budget in an effort to ensure special needs students get the same opportunities as other students.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp, who announced the funding on May 3 at Cobram and District Specialist School, said it played an integral role in providing special education to the local community.
“You can't get a first-rate education in a second-rate classroom — this investment will go a long way towards improving the facilities for students at Cobram and District Specialist School and making their educational journey a modern and engaging one,” he said.
“Under a Labor Government every child will be supported to reach their full potential, no matter whether they attend a special school or a mainstream school.”
The budget also committed $234 million to upgrade 29 mainstream government schools to provide more room to students, improved learning spaces and sports facilities.
“We’re making sure every Victorian student has access to the best facilities at school, no matter where they live,” Education Minister James Merlino said.
The state government has invested $12.8 billion in new schools and over 1850 school upgrades, creating about 17,400 jobs in construction and associated industries.
It is also delivering 100 new schools between 2019 and 2026, with 75 new schools opening between 2019 and 2024.
