Floristry students brightened the day of residents at Finley Regional Care last week, making and delivering 40 stunning handmade floral arrangements just in time for Mother’s Day.

As part of their six-week floristry taster as part of their TAFE course, local students developed hands-on skills in flower arranging, with some planning to continue their studies in the Certificate II in Floristry or Certificate III in Floristry.
Keen to make an emotional and aesthetic impact, the students put their new skills to work, crafting floral designs and presenting them to residents on Friday.
Several also volunteer at the aged care centre, making the initiative even more meaningful.
Student Bernie Agosta said the initiative has been a great way to put her new skills to use.
"Learning floristry techniques at TAFE has been an exciting and rewarding experience because it’s helped me to learn the correct way to arrange flowers, and make it a professional looking finished product,” she said.
“What makes it even more special is seeing how something as simple as a floral arrangement can brighten someone’s day.
“We’ve worked hard to hone our skills and create visually appealing designs, but knowing that our work is bringing happiness to the residents of Finley Regional Care makes this experience even more fulfilling.”
TAFE NSW Education Pathways teacher Sarah Cox said the course provided students with strong foundational skills.
"This initiative is a powerful one in helping our students use their new hands-on skills to brighten the days of members of our community,” Ms Cox said.
“Our students are not only developing key floristry skills — such as designing bouquets, boxed arrangements, and table centrepieces — but they’re also experiencing the joy of using their creativity for a meaningful cause.
“Seeing the impact of their work first-hand reinforces the importance of practical education and community connection."
