The Year 5/6 students nominated to be part of the Australian Antarctic Festival.
They were among 200 schools to receive 50 cut-out Adélie penguins to paint and return to the festival.
The result will be a extraordinary display of colour and creativity as part of the ‘Penguin Rookeries’ displays.
It is expected more than 10,000 of the penguin cut-outs will be showcased, with some coming from children in Antarctica, Punta Arenas, Ushuaia and Christchurch.
Students were guided through the process by Zowie Crump, who supports the creative arts at Deni South.
Ms Crump said as part of the learning experience, students also made a film about their processes.
The only event of its kind in Australia, the Australian Antarctic Festival celebrates the role of Hobart as one of the world’s pre-eminent gateways to the Antarctic and acknowledges the contribution made by the Antarctic community to both the economy and the social fabric of Tasmania.
The four day program will run from August 22 to 25.
