In classic form, they plan to keep it old school.
“It’s fair dinkum and realistic,” Phil said about the Criterion.
“The biggest thing that impresses us is the workers, they’re great and they know what they’re doing.”
The couple from Elmore set their sights on the pub when it went up for sale recently and decided on a joint business venture.
“We thought we’d have a crack,” Phil said.
“This could be interesting, it’s something new.”
The pair have both owned businesses before, with Phil working in motorsport and stunt work all over Australia, and Cher selling up her Kyneton business to work closer to home.
So rest assured Rochester, your favourite TAB, watering hole and meals venue will keep its heart.
“We both have similar attitudes in how we treat customers,” Phil said.
“You have to have a similar attitude when you’re running a business and you need to make sure you’re both heading in the right direction.”
