“The dinner went really well, it was a lovely night,” organiser Judy Anderson said.
“Jon Lam’s painting went for $700 in the auction to David Williams.”
The next morning the paint-off began.
“The artists all made good starts to their murals and we’ve had quite good crowds coming through,” Judy said.
“A couple of the murals are based on Murray Goulburn but they’re all very different.
“One conveys the impact on the town from losing such a vital industry and also having no water for farmers, they’re so cleverly thought out.”
There are some quirky ideas coming through, with Alicia Huddy’s bicycle-riding cow and some interesting interpretations of the theme, ‘Rochester: past, present or future'.
The artists will continue to paint this week and some of their other artwork is on display in the Heritage Courthouse, with Devonshire tea provided by the Rotary Club.
This Saturday at noon the winning murals and Rochybalds prizes will be announced, including the People’s Choice, which can be voted on at Mural Park.
Voters who make a gold coin donation go into the running for a $100 voucher from the Rochester Business Network.
