Captains Kaylah Moon, Paige Simmie, Maddie Howard and Eden Beaumont are eager to take a more active role in the school community during their final year.
Eden said it was an honour to be a captain, and that the responsibility of the role was clear when relaying students’ suggestions to teachers and principals.
Kaylah described the opportunity as exciting, saying it was a chance to “show some leadership” in their final year.
As intermediaries between students and staff, Paige also emphasised the importance of being approachable and supportive.
“Another role for us is just being a voice for other students,” she said.
“Being someone supportive that they feel they can come to, that can help get (issues) across to the teachers as well. We act as a pathway to talk to the teachers.”
While captaincy is a huge milestone, the students are also focused on making the most of their final year.
Though there are nerves around exams and study, the captains say they are more excited than anxious and ready to “lock in” and work hard.
Like many Year 12 students, the four captains already have plans for life beyond school.
Kaylah hopes to move to Melbourne to study in the health field, while Paige will also head to Melbourne to study psychology.
Eden plans to take a gap year to work and save before pursuing engineering at university, and Maddie intends to study architecture but is also considering a gap year.
With graduation still months away, Maddie said their priority for now was making a positive impact.
“We want to leave a mark on the school,” she said.
“Something to remember us by, something that impacts the students in a positive way.”
