Accompanied by Echuca Pirates export and current NBL teammate Luke Rosendale, Creek spent more than half an hour with local kids, signing autographs and shooting some hoops.
Originally only scheduled to appear in Echuca, Creek shuffled his clinics around to ensure kids in Rochy were taken care of after Rochester Basketball Association president Megan Keating reached out and explained Rochester’s recent plight.
Creek spoke of the importance of showing kids in regional areas that there are pathways to elite sport, a passion he holds given he hails from country Victoria himself.
“It’s massive, because I came from Horsham and I know what it’s like to maybe not always have the silver spoon in your mouth, but you work hard and you have an ability to appreciate a lot more,” he said.
“You’ve got to keep thinking it’s achievable, because if someone like myself can do it then anyone can really do it, and I think that’s the inspiration that you want to try and leave with kids.”
Inspiring: Mitch Creek gives Rochester children an insight on how he made it to the elite level despite growing up in country Victoria.
