With a strike set to affect V/Line trains on Friday, March 8, regional commuters are being urged to reconsider their travel plans.
Following unsuccessful negotiations with the Victorian Government, members of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union are set to halt V/Line’s entire regional network between 3am and 4pm.
This industrial action, the seventh since December, will see conductors, train controllers, stations, customer service staff and authorised officers engaging in the strike walk away from their posts.
The RTBU, having secured a 17 per cent salary increase for Metro workers, has advocated for fair pay, job security and favourable working conditions for its regional members for the past nine months.
Regional commuters are advised to make alternative travel arrangements, and motorists should expect increased traffic on key routes between regional centres and Melbourne.
Real-time traffic conditions can be found at traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au, while the latest public transport information is available at ptv.vic.gov.au, the PTV app, or the V/Line website or app.
Passengers are urged to check these sources before embarking on their journeys.
