The day was a wonderful reminder that at JPS, everyone belongs.
Students arrived wearing a splash of orange, the official colour of Harmony Day, symbolising respect, diversity and inclusion.
“The bright colour throughout the playground and classrooms created a warm and welcoming atmosphere as students acknowledged the importance of understanding and valuing the backgrounds and experiences that shape our community,” the school said.
“Students shared insights into their cultural backgrounds, discussing language, customs, celebrations and their family traditions and heritage.
“This was a powerful moment that encouraged students to reflect on their own backgrounds and appreciate the many ways we are both different and connected.”
A highlight of the day was the shared cultural lunch.
Families generously contributed a range of dishes that represented cultural traditions, family heritage and favourite foods from around the world.
Students enjoyed the opportunity to sample different foods while learning about the stories and traditions behind them.
The shared lunch created a wonderful sense of connection as students gathered together to experience the diversity within our school.
Principal Laura Keech said the day was a wonderful reflection of the values students demonstrate each day.
“Harmony Day reminds us that our differences make our community stronger,” she said.
“I was incredibly proud of the way our students celebrated the diverse backgrounds within our school and showed such genuine respect for one another and for our wider community.
