Ms Thompson, who owns Seymour business Skin by Sar, was selected as a finalist in BIC’s Industry Impact and Community Over Competition awards.
This comes after the beauty professional took home three awards in the Australian Online Beauty Competition in July and three awards at the Circadia Elevate event in August, as well being selected as a Circadia ambassador.
She said she “couldn’t believe it” when she found out.
“I entered without any expectations, so to be chosen as a finalist alongside such incredible women and businesses is an honour in itself,” Ms Thompson said.
“Honestly, that’s the biggest win for me, and it fits the spirit of the night perfectly, because BIC is really about celebrating each other.”
Ms Thompson said the Community Over Competition Award recognised those in the industry who “lift others up rather than treat them as rivals”, while the Industry Impact Award recognised businesses which made a positive difference “beyond their own four walls”.
For the local business owner, the former is about supporting fellow beauty professionals.
“I share what works for me, I answer question from other therapists whenever they reach out and I go out of my way to support other clinics even when there’s nothing in it for me,” Ms Thompson said.
“It’s not a slogan, it’s how I run my business every day.”
The Industry Impact Award, on the other hand, represents Ms Thompson’s commitment to going above and beyond, demonstrated through her active role in the Circadia Educational Forum and Beauty Business School, her past mentoring of a Year 11 student through work experience, and her advice and product sharing with other clinicians.
The awards will be presented at the annual BIC event in Melbourne on Saturday, November 14.
Each award is decided in a people’s choice vote, which is open to the public.
Ms Thompson said winning would mean a lot to her.
“It would mean so much, not just for me, but for what these awards stand for,” she said.
“Winning would show that kindness, generosity and lifting others up can be the foundation of a successful business.
“It would also give real momentum to my goal of bringing beauty therapy training to our region and show young people here that you can build a career you love without leaving home.
“But win or not, I’ll be there on the night cheering on every finalist.”
Voting closes on Friday, October 23.
