Hungie Fangs backs Baking for Brain Cancer

There was something rising in the kitchens at one of Cobram’s beloved bakeries last week, and it was not what you might expect.

Hungie Fangs Artisan Bakery owners Lina Galati and Damien Gow threw their support behind Baking for Brain Cancer, a national fundraiser to support critical research.

“Reading about the statistics of brain cancer was such an eye-opener,” Lina told The Courier.

“Why wouldn’t you get behind it? It is a cancer that affects young children and adults under 40 years old, and there’s no cure for it.”

Through a donation box and the sales of cupcakes, biscuits and the bakery’s award-winning pies and slices, Lina and Damien managed to raise a grand sum of $2222.20 for brain cancer research.

The Baking for Brain Cancer campaign was organised by Berwick-based baker Phil Dalton, whose wife, Tonie, was diagnosed with a highly aggressive type of brain cancer in April 2024.

All money raised by the Baking for Brain Cancer campaign from bakeries across the country will go towards research at The Brain Cancer Centre.

“We’ve actually got a few customers who have brain cancer. And obviously, because there’s no cure for brain cancer, it’s a cancer that needs to be monitored for the rest of their lives,” Lina said.
