For this year’s National Volunteer Week, council is offering a grant of up to $500.
Community groups can apply for this grant to support volunteer thank-you events, activities, training and development, or transport.
National Volunteer Week starts on Monday, May 20, and ends on Sunday, May 26.
The event highlights the positive impact that volunteers have on the community, the many ways that people can volunteer and the work that many organisations do to support volunteers
This year’s national theme is ‘something for everyone’. Locally, the theme is recognising the many hats that volunteers wear in the community.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Louise Bannister said volunteers were the heartbeat of the community, dedicating their time and energy to make a positive difference.
“So many volunteers operate quietly in the background and rarely receive the thanks they deserve,” she said.
“This is an opportunity to recognise those people who are the lifeblood of our communities and celebrate what they bring to Mitchell Shire.
“I strongly encourage local community groups to apply for this funding to support the important work volunteers do across our shire.”
Mitchell Shire Council is also using the week to encourage groups seeking volunteers and people thinking about volunteering to visit the Volunteering Mitchell website to add or view current opportunities.
