Beginning on February 23, artists will spend the week creating an image which depicts this year’s theme of ‘our country life’.
Before the festival begins, people will have a chance to see what each artist has designed at the Meet the Artists dinner on the night before.
There, they will unveil their ‘mini mural’ to the crowd.
‘‘It’s been very interesting to see the diverse aspects of the artists’ imagination when they looked at the theme,’’ Rochester Mural Festival head committee member Val Gledhill said.
‘‘I would have thought we would get a lot of tractors, but that was not the case — it never ceases to amaze me how a simple theme like that creates so many different ideas.’’
The festival commences on Saturday, February 23 and finishes on Saturday, March 2, when the judges deliver their decision.
The Meet the Artists dinner will be held at the Rochester Racecourse Recreation Reserve, Northern Hwy, Rochester on February 22.
The dinner will begin at 6.30pm and costs $25 per head. Tickets for this event are available at Dingwalls Newsagency or Rochester Mitre 10.
