At each meeting, a guest speaker is invited to address the members and share knowledge on various topics.
At the club’s most recent meeting, Nicole Hickey, a first responder and ambulance community officer based in Rochester, addressed members and provided essential information about stroke awareness.
Ms Hickey was supported by fellow first responders, Lydia Meehan and Louise Napier.

Ms Hickey stressed that a stroke is a medical emergency in which quick action and prompt medial intervention can help limit brain damage.
She emphasised the importance of calling 000 if a stroke is suspected.
Ms Hickey also explained the acronym FAST, the globally recognised method for identifying the warning signs of stroke.
The fun part of the meeting followed, a Christmas in July celebration.

Many members chose to wear festive headwear and the meeting room was suitably decorated and morning tea consisted of shortbread and fruitcake.
After the meeting, 54 members gathered at the Rochester Hotel to socialise over a succulent roast lunch.
The tables were beautifully decorated in keeping with the Christmas theme.
