A mix of dam spills and rain run off in the catchments is causing minor flooding along both systems, including at Darlington Point and Coleambally.
In the Murrumbidgee in particular, authorities are predicting another surge of water to come through within the next week.
Minor flooding is already being experienced at Darlington Point, continuing through to Carrathool and Hay.
The State Emergency Service says a second flood peak is approaching Gundagai, with the main peak now at Narrandera, where moderate flooding is occurring.
Floodwaters will continue to extend downstream to Darlington Point and beyond, with the minor flood peak expected about Friday.
The SES is predicting the Murrumbidgee at Darlington Point may reach 6.4m at the end of the week — an increase of almost a metre from the start of the week.
The following impacts may occur:
• Inundation of rural floodplains;
• Water may impact Sturt Highway at Tubbo (east of Darlington Point); and
• Camping area of Darlington Point Caravan Park may be impacted by flood water.
Water levels are also rising in the Murray River at Tocumwal, which latest data shows is 5.06m and steady.
Spills from the Hume Dam combined with flood waters from the Kiewa River have caused minor flooding along the Murray River.
River levels downstream of Corowa are likely to remain below minor flood levels.
