Songs at the Silos, set for Saturday, March 7 at the Rochester silos, will showcase a blend of international opera singers, musical theatre performers and local talent.
The free community gathering will feature acclaimed performers Michael J. Lapiña, a Filipino-Australian tenor with international opera experience, Julia Allsop, a seasoned musical theatre performer, Alex Pokryshevsky, a classically trained vocalist, and Eleanor Blythman, an established opera singer.
Adding a local flavour to the line-up is emerging artist Evie Scoble, who embarked on her musical journey in 2020.
“I have always sung. It has always been something that I just did around the house. Then in 2020 I started lessons,” Evie said.
“My singing teacher's name is Glenda Bancell and she has taught me the basics of everything, like vowel sounds when you are singing.
“She really taught me to connect, not just to sing, but to connect with the emotions of the song.”
The young performer draws inspiration from contemporary artists.
“I really look to Taylor Swift for her storytelling, especially with her albums, like Folklore and Evermore, her lyricism is really beautiful,” she said.
“I really like Billie Eilish. Her lyrics are again, so beautiful, but also the way she uses her voice and the soft tones of it.”

Evie's go-to performance piece is Imagine by John Lennon.
“It is just such a beautiful song,” she said.
“I just really love the message of it, and I think so many people know it, and so many people really relate to it as well.”
Evie performed at the 2025 Songs at the Silos as well.
“I am not going to lie, I was nervous,” she said.
“It was a big thing, but I found it, the environment, was really amazing.
“The opera singers that were there, they were so genuinely inviting and so talented, and they were so kind to me and they made me feel a part of the scene.”
