Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Anthony De Cicco said police cars and the police Air Wing followed the allegedly orange stolen Holden Commodore as it drove in Shepparton from about 9.30am on Wednesday, October 28, and on to Kialla, Barmah, Moama, Deniliquin, Mathoura and back to Moama.
In Moama, a passenger got out of the car to allegedly try to obtain fuel at about 12.45pm.
The 27 year-old man was arrested by police, Det Sen Const De Cicco said.
The driver continued back to Barmah where police successfully deployed tyre deflation devices.
The car - which had been stolen about a week earlier from the Echuca area - was found abandoned a short time later at Cummeragunja.
Det Sen Const De Cicco alleged the driver stole an older Holden station wagon from Cummeragunja, but police stopped following the vehicle due to safety concerns as it later drove back into Echuca.
Police say the car then made its way back to Shepparton.
Six days later - on Tuesday, November 3 - police allege the same man was seen driving a Holden Vectra in Waranga Dve, Kialla, at 1.30pm.
When police tried to stop the vehicle, it was allegedly driven on to the wrong side of the road, before then allegedly overtaking numerous vehicles dangerously and speeding.
Later that afternoon, police allege the same man was found in an associate’s car on the Hume Fwy at Seymour.
He fled on foot and allegedly assaulted two police officers as they tried to arrest him, which resulted in him being tasered, Det Sen Constable De Cicco said.
A 29 year-old Shepparton man has now been charged with 32 offences.
They include two counts of dangerous driving while pursued by police, two counts of failing to stop on police direction, two counts of theft of a vehicle, two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of assaulting emergency services workers, theft, and numerous charges of contravening a bail condition.
He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
