Local barrel racer Ella Birt is starting to make a name for herself in another rodeo sport, after success at both the Deniliquin and Finley rodeos at the weekend.
Birt teamed up with Leah Ellis to claim Deniliquin’s Pen Riders Steer Challenge with a combined 115 points on Easter Saturday.
Birt backed it up in Finley on Easter Sunday where she was second in their steer riding competition.
Deniliquin Rodeo committee member Allan Calderwood said Birt was also a good chance to claim a barrel racing prize at Deniliquin, but lost 10 points off her score after colliding with a barrel.
The Pen Riders Challenge was one of two steer challenges hosted at Deniliquin.
The other was the Pub Challenge, for which any of the sponsoring businesses with a liquor licence could enter.
First was Meg Kirkwood with a score of 46, representing Ritchies Liquor Drive Thru Store.
Second was Jordie Ramadge, another female competitor, who represented the Coach House Hotel Motel.
The Deniliquin event also saw cowboys and cowgirls from across the country flock to Deniliquin to compete in the Australia Pro Rodeo Association events.
The stock supplied by Garry McPhee proved too much of a challenge for some, which resulted in no-one scoring in the open bull ride.
