Cobram Lions Club has presented Moira Shire’s William Hoyle with a cheque for $1000 to assist him as he pursues his dream of being a professional wood chopper.

The cheque was given to Mr Hoyle on Tuesday, May 9 during a Lions meeting in which he gave a speech on his wood-chopping experience, giving insight into the sport and telling Lions members what he hopes to achieve.
Mr Hoyle has been involved in wood chopping all his life thanks to his father’s participation in the sport.

“I’ve been around it my entire life. Been travelling around the countryside since I could walk, and interstate as well,” he said.
Mr Hoyle’s first competition was in 2012 at the Shepparton Agricultural Show and he hopes to compete and represent Australia in Europe.
Recently, he competed at the Sydney Show and won two competitions and recorded multiple placings in the finals and semi-final competitions of the wood-chopping events.
Mr Hoyle said he was ecstatic about his successes.
“Pretty impressed with myself,” he said.
Mr Hoyle competed in the handicap competitions and his two wins came in the underhand events, which he explained was where the competitor stands on the log itself and then swings the axe between their legs.
