Campaspe Police Service Area will be holding a Neighbourhood Policing Forum at Echuca Workers on Wednesday, August 26, and police want you there.
The event is designed to strengthen the relationship between local police and the community, with open discussion on safety and crime issues that matter most to people in the Campaspe area.
The forum will cover topics including current crime trends and prevention, family violence, young people, drugs and drug-related crime, road policing and more.
For Acting Inspector Damian Keegan, the forum is a two-way conversation and an opportunity to listen directly to residents and community groups.
“To ensure we’re giving a service that the community is expecting, there needs to be a conversation about what those expectations are,” he said.
“That’s what the Neighbourhood Policing Forum is about: having that conversation where we get to see and hear a little bit more from other stakeholders and community members (about) what they are seeing, what they are feeling, and where they feel safest.
“We have a big part to play in the perception of safety (in the community) to ensure that we provide a safe place for everybody.”
He said the feedback gathered at the forum would directly shape how Campaspe police directed their resources to better serve the community’s needs.
Act Insp Keegan said it would also be a great opportunity for community members to ask any burning questions they had for police members.
The forum will be run by a Victoria Police panel, and questions will be taken from the audience throughout the event.
Attendees will also receive an update on findings from the Campaspe PSA community sentiment survey, conducted throughout June, which explored public space safety, road safety and where residents feel most secure.
