Councils and community groups have collaborated to bring a diverse offering of events to residents of each local government area.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell commended the dedication behind the planned celebrations and the sense of community fuelling them.
“Our clubs and committees continue to show incredible commitment and creativity, making Australia Day a true reflection of the vibrant spirit of our shire,” he said.
“Residents can look forward to a fantastic mix of activities including barbecue breakfasts, lunches and dinners as well as guest speakers, pool parties, yabby races, games and live music.”
The following Australia Day events are planned across the region:
Rochester
When: 8.15am to 9.30am.
Where: Lions Park, Cnr Echuca Rd and Elizabeth St.
The Rochester Australia Day Committee and Rochester Lions Club have co-ordinated a barbecue breakfast, flag-raising ceremony, guest speaker and presentation of awards.
Echuca
When: 7am to 2pm.
Where: Hopwood Gardens, High St.
The Rotary Club of Echuca-Moama has organised a free barbecue breakfast, Australia Day ambassador presentation, flag-raising ceremony, awards presentations, a formation flyover by Echuca Aero Club, live entertainment and family fun.
Lockington
When: 8am to 11am.
Where: Lions Park, Lockington Rd.
The Lockington Lions Club will host a breakfast and flag-raising ceremony, with a kids’ fishing competition at the Lockington channel.
Elmore
When: 10am to noon.
Where: Elmore Community Hub, Clarke St.
As part of City of Greater Bendigo’s Summer in the Parks program, a community event that includes a barbecue breakfast, keynote speaker and music is planned. The official ceremony will begin at 10.30am.
Toolleen
When: from 11.30am.
Where: Toolleen Community Centre, Cornella Toolleen Rd.
The Toolleen Recreation Reserve Committee will provide a luncheon buffet, open a time capsule and host a guest speaker, with music by Rhonda Rhistrom.
