There is something truly magical about the way ceramic artist Angie Russi transforms humble earth into beautiful, lasting works of art, each one reflecting creativity, craftsmanship and a story all of its own.
And you only have to step inside her Rushworth studio to see just how unique her creations are.
From elegant vases and delicate mugs to bespoke plates, homewares and striking statement pieces, Angie creates handcrafted ceramics using porcelain and high-fired stoneware clay.
Every piece is a one-of-a-kind artwork, either thrown on the wheel before being enhanced with sculptural elements or carefully hand-built and sculpted by hand.
No two creations are ever exactly the same.
Her collection is constantly evolving, with every new piece showcasing fresh ideas, beautiful textures and a thoughtfully curated palette of colours inspired by the natural world.
For Angie, clay is a medium that continually challenges and inspires her.
“I love that no two pieces are ever the same,” she said.
“Clay has a mind of its own sometimes, and that’s part of the beauty of it.
“Every stage of the process — from forming the piece to opening the kiln — is filled with anticipation, and I still get excited every single time.”
Visitors to Angie’s Rushworth studio will find shelves filled with an ever-changing collection of ceramics, from functional everyday pieces to sculptural artworks designed to become treasured additions to any home.
“I want people to find something they connect with,” she said.
“Whether it’s a mug they use every morning or a statement piece that reminds them of a special place or moment, I hope my work becomes part of their story.”
As well as creating her own collection, Angie enjoys sharing her passion through workshops and classes, helping others discover the joy of working with clay.
“Seeing someone create something with their own hands for the first time is incredibly rewarding,” she said.
“Everyone can find their inner artist, and working with clay is a tactile and very accessible way to do so.
“It’s about slowing down, being creative and embracing the process. Everyone leaves having made something that's uniquely theirs.”
Alongside her own collection, Angie also welcomes commission work and loves the opportunity to create meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by her clients’ ideas.
From custom kitchen splashbacks to uniquely crafted shop signage, she enjoys bringing creative visions to life through the versatility of clay and creating pieces that are both functional and deeply personal.
