Ashley Centra, who gathered 25 touches for the Pies, kicked a goal In the final 30 seconds to cut the gap to two, but the Saints held on.
"I was proud of the group to just find a way today," Dal Santo said after finishing with a 23-39 win-loss record.
"We speak to our playing group about impacting and moments of impact, and what you've probably seen on the field is I haven't been impacting.
 "Anything that happens on the field obviously falls into my bucket of responsibility and I accept everything that's happened this year."
In Adelaide, both teams kicked two goals in the first half and one in the second.
Port led 15-2 in the second quarter, but the Eagles closed to within two points at halftime.
While the Eagles had more of the play in the second and third quarters, Port had several more inside-50s in the last.
Port defender Teagan Germech was a massive presence down back, racking up 12 intercepts as her team pulled off 74 tackles to 37.
Midfielder Abbey Dowrick logged 25 touches and nine clearances for Port, and Ella Roberts tallied 22 touches and six clearances for the Eagles.
