After winning the toss, WA recovered from a disastrous start when they lost both openers in Daniel Sams' first two overs.
They reached 2-70 at the end of the 16th and Marsh was on 27 when he attempted a quick single.
Marsh then turned back quickly and that caused a sharp pain in his left leg.
He dropped to the ground and needed medical attention for several minutes.
But Marsh kept batting and was soon running between the wickets without any obvious discomfort.
Two runs later, Adam Zampa bowled him for 29, ending his 61-run stand with Cameron Bancroft.
Zampa then bowled captain Ashton Turner with his next delivery for a duck and Hilton Cartwright survived the hat-trick ball.
WA are in big strife at 4-78 after 18 overs, with Bancroft on 35 and Cartwright unbeaten on one.Â
