As the name states, the garden is a wonderful haven for the community with produce grown on site available for all residents of Corowa and district to enjoy.
The aim of the garden is to grow food and provide a local food source, to grow the community through social inclusion and to provide education about health, nutrition, agriculture and composting.
The garden also aims to challenge the community by inviting people of all ages, abilities and ethnic backgrounds to share a vibrant, creative, inclusive learning space that will enrich people's lives through growing inexpensive fresh food, resulting in a smaller carbon footprint.
With Autumn arrives new jobs such as watering, weeding, replenishing soil and general maintenance and community garden members are hoping to attract active new volunteers to assist with these efforts.
Community Garden secretary Debbie Harrison said volunteers were not limited to what jobs they could do.
“Volunteers can choose what jobs they would like to do,” she said.
“No experience is necessary. Just people who can assist with weeding, watering and maintenance, even if it’s just for an hour or so.
“It’s a great opportunity to get outdoors and be part of an inclusive, friendly environment. We also have many community activities, events and workshops throughout the year.
“We’d love to see people of any background or culture to come along and share their ideas with us also.
“We welcome anyone to drop in on a Tuesday or Thursday morning around 9am or at 10am for a cuppa and a chat.”
Anyone interested is invited to pop down to the garden at the previously mentioned time, located on the grounds of the Uniting Church on Queen Street. For those who can’t make it in person, contact the Corowa Community Garden on Facebook. All ages and backgrounds welcome.
