THE SKIES may have been grey, but that didn’t stop the sea of orange gathering at Rochester Primary School on Friday for All Inclusion Orange Day.

Students from Rochester Primary and Secondary Colleges, Echuca Specialist School, and St Joseph’s Primary School came together for a day of fun for everyone.
‘‘It’s just been a great day. We were a bit worried about the rain in the beginning, but at the end of the day, it’s only the adults who worry about that,’’ Rochester Primary School student wellbeing co-ordinator Kate Taylor said.
Despite Orange Day being a hit in other years, the schools thought it was time to take the event to the next level.
‘‘We’ve only ever done this individually at our schools on a smaller scale before this year. We figured, because the day is all about inclusion, we really needed to ramp it up a bit,’’ she said.
‘‘We thought it would be a great opportunity to bring everyone together and run something big.’’
For many, the event was believed to be important in so many ways.
‘‘It’s just a great opportunity for kids who don’t have anything to do with other kids, or people who don’t have the same ability as others, to see that everyone is the same and everyone can do the same thing, just on different levels,’’ Ms Taylor said.
Face-painting, a jumping castle, slot car races and even a rock climbing wall made sure the kids were kept on their feet for the day.
The schools received $2500 worth of funding from Carers Support, a part of Bendigo Health, as well as $2800 from Fonterra for the event, and they couldn’t be more thankful.
‘‘We’re so grateful for both organisations and their generosity. We were able to run this event with their support and it was just amazing,’’ Ms Taylor said.
