Ambrose events finished off the final nine-hole weeks of the year last Wednesday in the three-person competition.
Bruce Bryant, Greg Watkins, and Gavin Houlihan's score of 35 — 5 2/3 net 29 1/3 was just enough to win from the team of Peter Anderson, Kevin McCormack, and Laurie Radley's two-under 34 - 4 net 30.
Next best were Laurie Jackel, Garry Charnas, and Shane Bywaters 35 - 4 net 30 5/6.
Over this season's Wednesday nine-hole events some great scores were recorded, none better than Alex McQuibban's 29 Stableford points and Shane Bywaters' five under par for 28 points, while McQuibban also shot 26 points during the year.
Watkins, Radley, and Robert Vise recorded solid 25 over nine holes. McQuibban and Houlihan's score of 42 Stableford points was the best in the four-ball format.
In Friday evening two-person Ambrose, current Bendigo club champion James Walsh and his father Mark shot a three under 33 — 2.5 net 30.5 to win from club secretary Louise Williams and brother Brendan McCarty 35 — 3 3/4 net 31 1/4 from the team of vice-captain Lachie Wilson and Bruce Bryant net 31 3/4.
Campaspe
That’s another year of golf done and dusted, and Campaspe Golf finished up the year playing Stableford on the par-three course.
The wind had a bit of influence on the players; that was their excuse anyway to explain the frequent trips into the trees.
The winner on Sunday was Lynne Canavan with 36 points, and another lap around the hall. She's going to have a track worn into the carpet if she keeps this up. Lynne also had nearest-the-pin on the third.
Runner-up was the chocolate-loving Jeff Carnie with 34 points.
Jeff scored another block of chocolate by getting nearest-the-pin on the 18th, and Shane Bywaters claimed nearest-the-pin on the first.
We start again next year on Sunday, January 16 at 9am. We are speculating that summer will have started properly by then, so it’s an early start and in before the heat.
We were able to have three draws for our raffle thanks to generous members.
Congratulations to the winners:
1st Denise Burgoine;
2nd Cheryl Hinge;
3rd Faye Latter.
Thanks to all who supported our raffle.
Merry Christmas and a safe and healthier 2022 to all — and please don't fraternise with the bugs.
