The Niners played a stableford game in lovely golfing weather.
Visitor Ken Lambert took out the winner’s prize with a great score of 19 points.
Up and coming Wayne Robinson was runner-up on a count back from Tony Murray.
They both scored 16 points.
Tony didn’t miss out altogether as he claimed nearest the pin on both the 5th and 7th.
We are still waiting for a hole-in-one.
I’ve been told Tony came very close a couple of weeks ago.
Never to be left out was Ray Peake was the truest driver for the day on the 4th.
Hopefully we will be able to get our summer competitions up and running soon.
Good luck everyone and stay safe.
Rochester
Strong southerly winds are not contusive to low scores due to the east-west orientation of the course, as was the case in last Saturday’s stableford event at Blackculvert Road.
Nathan McCarty showed the sporting ability is still evident even in the younger members of the McCarty clan by winning with an impressive 37 points in the blustery conditions.
Captain Leigh Hicks and Darren White both on 36 were next best, Frank Severino, Nathan Marrone and Graham Willis each recorded 35 points while Ian Pollard (33) also won a ball on a five-way countback.
Hicks, Brendan McCarty father of Nathan, Nathan’s Auntie Louise Willaims and captain Hicks were nearest the pin winners.
Raylea Willis’ great score of 38 points won the ladies event from Jenny Major (33) on a countback from Louise Williams.
In last Tuesday’s 18-hole event Russell Anderson had his best score off the short course white tees with a handicape breaking 40 stableford points including 27 points and parring the front nine.
Fellow Richmond supporter Des Gallagher was next best on 36 points, maybe they should play off the "Tiger Tees" next week as suggested by Geelong supporter in Ian Pollard (36) who lost on a countback.
Over the last few months the course has been open seven days a week, where a record number of green fee players and new young members have enjoyed the great conditions due to the ideal winter growing season, unavailability of courses and the cancellation of local football and netball seasons.
The club has been very conscience of social distancing, mask wearing and other health regulations brought on by the current COVID-19 crisis while still running social events through the week due to the increased demand for people to exercise.
Playing in groups of two, some of the best unofficial scores over the last few weeks were recorded by Ap Kuiper (41pts), Liam Ringin (41), Greg Watkins (40), Ken Lambert (42), Nathan McCarty (39) Laurie Radley, Leigh Hicks, Tim Bubb, Tim Quinlan & Brendan McCarty all on 38.
Liam Ringin once again with an amazing 46 points, from the unlucky Greg Watkins (43), Tim Bubb (40), Barb McCarty (43), Jenny Major and Lisa Evans both on (38).
Off the white short course included Bruce Bryant (44), Tim Quinlan (43), Bruce Major (2 x 41), Russell Anderson (40) and Gavin Houlihan (39).
In the first stroke round after restrictions were lifted and in perfect conditions, handicap breaking rounds were recorded by Robert Vise and Tim Quinlan both on nett 65 and Chris Eeles nett 66, Nick O’Connor (68), Ken Lambert and Jess Cuttriss (69).
Graham Willis, Leigh Millard, Nathan McCarty, Liam Ringin, Steven Bubb and Shane Bywaters all scored nett 70.
Congratulations to veteran Tim Quinlan who finally broke his age with 77 off the stick.
For those who would like to hear his hole by hole descriptions, just turn up over the next few months and I’m assured he will remember every shot.
Reminder to all members the club’s AGM will be held at 7pm on Monday, October 26, where new committees and other important decisions such as 2021 subscriptions, green fees, course alterations and water issues will be discussed in full.
Your attendance is encouraged.
Lockington
Despite the wintry and windy weather, a good field of 36 golfers contested a stroke round at Lockington on Saturday, with numbers boosted by visitors from Mitiamo and Bamawm, as well as LBU footballers who enjoyed a social 9-hole ambrose event.
The coveted Gartside Cup was up for grabs, contested by 14 golfers who had qualified during the season.
First contested in 1971, it was the only trophy that club legend Kevin Humbert hadn’t won.
All that changed on Saturday, when Kevin finally won the cup after nearly 50 years of trying.
He returned the excellent score of 77-10-67, two shots clear of the joint runners-up Bowden Stone (90-21-69) and Darren Carnie (88-19-69), followed by Andy Freemantle (83-13-70).
Kevin cleaned up big time, also winning the Giddings player of the day voucher, A grade honours, a nearest the pin and the eagles nest.
Andy Freemantle was A grade runner-up, followed by Mitiamo visitor Adam Gould (85-13-72).
Ron Dixon won B grade with a fine score of 89-21-68, ahead of Bowden Stone and Darren Carnie.
C grade was won by Tom Scurrah (94-23-71) — thanks to an eight-shot improvement on the inside 9 — on a countback from JD Wright (94-23-71), with Mitiamo visitor Peter Meighan (96-23-73) next best.
The monthly medallists final was also contested on Saturday, by those golfers who had won monthly medals during the season.
Bowden Stone (90-21-69) romped to victory, six shots clear of runner-up Brett Stone (80-5-75).
NTPs: 7th — Kevin Humbert; second shot 13th — Matt Myers (A), Darren Carnie (B), Jacob Haines (C); second shot 18th for the 8-pack smack – Adam Gould.
Spike’s Longest Drive on the 14th, sponsored by Hot ‘n’ Cold Plumbing: Grant Humbert (A), Blake Humbert (B), Jacob Haines (C).
Kevin Humbert won the 12 balls in the Echuca CIH eagles nest with a super shot on the 3rd, but Captain Bricka’s yardstick wasn’t on the 16th, and jackpots to $73 for next week.
Inclement weather threw a spanner in the works for the ladies’ stableford round on Wednesday, truncating the event back to a 9-hole comp.
Best on course and winner of the Giddings Player of the Day voucher with a fine score of 17 points was Phyll Macfarlane, ahead of Annette Brereton (16).
NTPs: Sherryl Jones and Phyll Macfarlane.
Upcoming events

Longest drive: 3/12 — Dylan Cuttriss and Louise Williams.
Nearest the hillman: 9/18 — Annette Brereton.
We would like to thank our visitors from Lockington, Shepparton, Rochester, Elmore, Rich River and Campaspe.
Thanks to everyone who has supported us this season, in what has been a crazy year to say the least.
We really do appreciate it.
Elmore
We had a great turn up at the club for the final round of the matchplay championships.
After a great first nine Mac Whittle had a three-stroke lead, but Luke Price held his nerve to eventually draw even with one hole to play and in a thrilling 18th Luke got up to win.
Congratulations to Luke and well done Mac for a great match.
The day’s event was the prestigious Rochester Tyres final round and that came down to two players on equal points to share the trophy.
Congratulations to Anthony Tanner and Greg Holmberg.
The A grade stableford event was taken out by a newcomer to A grade ranks in Tony Barnes showing that he is “in” with a super 36 points.
Runner-up was Greg Holmberg with 35.
B grade was taken out by Alan Campbell with a super 39.
Runner-up with a great round of 37 was Harry Grogan.
NTP went to Ron McKenzie with three great shots to the 10th, Rod Whittle had three super shots to the 5th, Sam McLeod in three on 18 and Greg Holmberg took out the super-pin on the 14th.
In the other very important event of the day Matt Grogan gained bragging rites in the prestigious Grogan Challenge.
Elmore golfers were saddened this week with the passing of Peter Duncan.
Dunco was secretary of the club during his time and sponsorship coordinator.
Peter also started and ran the annual golf trip for the men for 21 years.
A great evening was had remembering many funny stories and the great company he was.
Cheers Dunco we will miss you.
Our deepest sympathies to Ben, Matt, Steph, and James, our thoughts are with you.
