After several months on the sidelines, more than 100 players are preparing to take to the court on three different nights of the week – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
There will be a number of COVID-19 guidelines in place including sanitising and signing in on arrival, no personal basketballs, social distancing of crowd, sanitiser on team and score benches, no high fives, handshakes or huddles and immediately leaving the venue after the game.
Referees have also made changes to their role including no jump ball and players handling the ball for side and base line throw ins as well as free throws.
Rochester Basketball Association president Mick Haisman said he was looking forward to seeing the club’s youngsters get out on the court.
“The return of basketball is very exciting for the players,” he said.
“Our committee has worked with Basketball Victoria’s Orange 50 guidelines to ensure player safety is paramount to this return.
“We can’t wait to blow that whistle and get the game started.”
